Doodle Pattern

Camouflage (Hidden Faces), 2017

Several years ago, I developed an essential tremor in both of my hands. For a while, the only thing I felt comfortable drawing were these continuous line face doodles, where I could just let the natural shake in my hand dictate the result. In this project, I wanted to both celebrate these doodles (for the comfort they brought me and my anxiety-ridden hands) and also demonstrate the way I hid behind them instead of pushing myself as an artist. Here, I designed a pattern of these doodles and screen-printed this design onto garments and a backdrop. The final digital collage presents as a camouflage, as the subjects fade into the design, representing both my ease with and reliance on this style.
